Mahlon F. Dickerson went into partnership with his paternal uncle and namesake Mahlon Dickerson (1770-1853), opening a general store called M.F. Dickerson & Co. in Succasunna, Morris County, New Jersey. The store had a close relationship with the nearby Dickerson Iron Mine, run by Mahlon Dickerson, yet seems to have done poorly. Mahlon Dickerson (April 17, 1770 - October 5, 1853) was an American judge and politician. He was elected Governor of New Jersey as well as United States Senator from that state.
